Overview
CVE-2004-2505 is a known-severity vulnerability affecting macromedia coldfusion. It was published on December 31, 2004.
Technical Description
Macromedia ColdFusion MX before 6.1 does not restrict the size of error messages, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption and crash) by sending repeated GET or POST requests that trigger error messages that use long strings of data.
Remediation
Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from macromedia. Update coldfusion to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.
