CVE-2019-10166

7.8 · HIGH
Published Aug 2, 2019 redhat CWE-284 EPSS 0.47% (39th pctl)

Overview

CVE-2019-10166 is a high-severity vulnerability affecting redhat libvirt. It was published on August 2, 2019 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.8 (HIGH).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.8, rated HIGH. It requires local or adjacent network access to exploit. Some level of privileges is required for exploitation.

Technical Description

It was discovered that libvirtd, versions 4.x.x before 4.10.1 and 5.x.x before 5.4.1, would permit readonly clients to use the virDomainManagedSaveDefineXML() API, which would permit them to modify managed save state files. If a managed save had already been created by a privileged user, a local attacker could modify this file such that libvirtd would execute an arbitrary program when the domain was resumed.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from redhat. Update libvirt to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

Affected Products

Vendor Product Versions Status
