Overview

CVE-2019-14891 is a medium-severity vulnerability affecting kubernetes cri-o. It was published on November 25, 2019 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 5.0 (MEDIUM).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 5.0, rated MEDIUM. It can be exploited remotely over the network. Some level of privileges is required for exploitation.

Technical Description

A flaw was found in cri-o, as a result of all pod-related processes being placed in the same memory cgroup. This can result in container management (conmon) processes being killed if a workload process triggers an out-of-memory (OOM) condition for the cgroup. An attacker could abuse this flaw to get host network access on an cri-o host.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from kubernetes. Update cri-o to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.
