7.8 · HIGH
Published Jul 22, 2020 synaptics CWE-763 EPSS 0.51% (42th pctl)

Overview

CVE-2019-18619 is a high-severity vulnerability affecting synaptics vfs75xx_firmware. It was published on July 22, 2020 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.8 (HIGH).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.8, rated HIGH. It requires local or adjacent network access to exploit. Some level of privileges is required for exploitation.

Technical Description

Incorrect parameter validation in the synaTee component of Synaptics WBF drivers using an SGX enclave (all versions prior to 2019-11-15) allows a local user to execute arbitrary code in the enclave (that can compromise confidentiality of enclave data) via APIs that accept invalid pointers.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from synaptics. Update vfs75xx_firmware to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.
