Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: fix possible store tearing in neigh_periodic_work()

While looking at a related syzbot report involving neigh_periodic_work(),

I found that I forgot to add an annotation when deleting an

RCU protected item from a list.

Readers use rcu_deference(*np), we need to use either

rcu_assign_pointer() or WRITE_ONCE() on writer side

to prevent store tearing.

I use rcu_assign_pointer() to have lockdep support,

this was the choice made in neigh_flush_dev().

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories, patches, and mitigation guidance. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2023-52522?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2023-52522 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
