CVE-2024-26857

7.3 · HIGH
Published Apr 17, 2024 linux CWE-908 EPSS 0.60% (46th pctl)

Overview

CVE-2024-26857 is a high-severity vulnerability affecting linux linux_kernel. It was published on April 17, 2024 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.3 (HIGH).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.3, rated HIGH. It can be exploited remotely over the network. No authentication or special privileges are required for exploitation.

Technical Description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

geneve: make sure to pull inner header in geneve_rx()

syzbot triggered a bug in geneve_rx() [1]

Issue is similar to the one I fixed in commit 8d975c15c0cd

("ip6_tunnel: make sure to pull inner header in __ip6_tnl_rcv()")

We have to save skb->network_header in a temporary variable

in order to be able to recompute the network_header pointer

after a pskb_inet_may_pull() call.

pskb_inet_may_pull() makes sure the needed headers are in skb->head.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from linux. Update linux_kernel to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.
