Published Sep 10, 2024 onelogin CWE-347 EPSS 10.68% (95th pctl)

Overview

CVE-2024-45409 is a critical-severity vulnerability affecting onelogin ruby-saml. It was published on September 10, 2024 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 10.0 (CRITICAL).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 10.0, rated CRITICAL. It can be exploited remotely over the network. No authentication or special privileges are required for exploitation.

Technical Description

The Ruby SAML library is for implementing the client side of a SAML authorization. Ruby-SAML in <= 12.2 and 1.13.0 <= 1.16.0 does not properly verify the signature of the SAML Response. An unauthenticated attacker with access to any signed saml document (by the IdP) can thus forge a SAML Response/Assertion with arbitrary contents. This would allow the attacker to log in as arbitrary user within the vulnerable system. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.17.0 and 1.12.3.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from onelogin. Update ruby-saml to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.
