Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

powerpc/pseries: Fix dtl_access_lock to be a rw_semaphore

The dtl_access_lock needs to be a rw_sempahore, a sleeping lock, because

the code calls kmalloc() while holding it, which can sleep:

# echo 1 > /proc/powerpc/vcpudispatch_stats

BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context at include/linux/sched/mm.h:337

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2024-56701?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2024-56701 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
