Published Dec 23, 2025 langchain CWE-502 EPSS 43.41% (99th pctl)

Overview

CVE-2025-68664 is a critical-severity vulnerability affecting langchain langchain_core. It was published on December 23, 2025 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.3 (CRITICAL).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.3, rated CRITICAL. It can be exploited remotely over the network. No authentication or special privileges are required for exploitation.

Technical Description

LangChain is a framework for building agents and LLM-powered applications. Prior to versions 0.3.81 and 1.2.5, a serialization injection vulnerability exists in LangChain's dumps() and dumpd() functions. The functions do not escape dictionaries with 'lc' keys when serializing free-form dictionaries. The 'lc' key is used internally by LangChain to mark serialized objects. When user-controlled data contains this key structure, it is treated as a legitimate LangChain object during deserialization rather than plain user data. This issue has been patched in versions 0.3.81 and 1.2.5.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from langchain. Update langchain_core to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.
