Published May 28, 2026 redhat CWE-78

Overview

CVE-2026-4408 is a critical-severity vulnerability affecting redhat openshift_container_platform. It was published on May 28, 2026 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.0 (CRITICAL).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.0, rated CRITICAL. It can be exploited remotely over the network. No authentication or special privileges are required for exploitation.

Technical Description

A flaw was found in Samba. A remote attacker can exploit a misconfiguration in Samba file servers and classic domain controllers that use the "check password script" feature. If this script is configured with the %u substitution character, the client-controlled username is passed without proper escaping of shell meta-characters. This vulnerability allows an attacker to achieve remote command execution on the affected system. This issue primarily affects non-standard configurations where the "check password script" is used with %u and the samba-dcerpcd service is started as a system service.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from redhat. Update openshift_container_platform to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.
