Overview

CVE-2026-96641 is a medium-severity vulnerability affecting python pillow. It was published on October 21, 2026 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 6.5 (MEDIUM).

This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 6.5, rated MEDIUM. It can be exploited remotely over the network. No authentication or special privileges are required for exploitation.

Technical description

Pillow is a Python imaging library. Prior to 13.0.0, PILfont text-width accumulation in src/_imaging.c checks positive glyph advances against INT_MAX but does not check negative advances against INT_MIN. Repeating a signed 16-bit advance of -32768 can therefore execute a signed C integer overflow in xsize += dx, producing a large positive width from a negative mathematical result. Applications that use getlength(), getsize(), or derived layout, quota, serialization, or allocation calculations can experience logic-integrity errors or resource consumption, while the high-level mask path commonly retains a decompression-bomb check. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.

Remediation

Check the references section for vendor advisories and patches from python. Update pillow to the latest patched version. If immediate patching is not possible, review the CVSS vector to understand the attack surface and apply compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions.

How can CyberStrike help with CVE-2026-96641?

CyberStrike is an open-source, AI-augmented pentesting engine. Rather than flag a version number, it tests whether an issue like CVE-2026-96641 is actually reachable in your own applications and APIs, then verifies each finding before reporting it. That tells you if the weakness is a real, exploitable risk in your environment or a false positive you can safely deprioritize.
