Create your first monitor

Add a URL, choose how often to check it and where alerts should go. Most teams are done in two minutes.

A monitor is a check that Navy runs on a schedule from several regions. When a check fails in three regions, Navy opens an incident and starts your alert policy.

Add the monitor

  1. In the dashboard, click New monitor.
  2. Choose a type. HTTP covers most websites and APIs. Use Keyword to also check that the response contains a word or phrase.
  3. Paste the URL you want to check.
  4. Pick a check interval. Free plans check every 3 minutes, paid plans every 30 seconds.

Choose regions

By default, every monitor runs from all 18 regions. If your service is only available in some parts of the world, open Regions and select the ones that should run the check. Keep at least three, since an outage is confirmed only when three regions agree.

Set up alerts

Under Alerts, choose who gets notified. You can start with your own email and add Slack, SMS or an escalation policy later.

Save and verify

Click Create monitor. The first checks run within a minute and appear on the monitor page with response times from each region. To see an alert end to end, click Send test alert.
